About the Artist
Angel Quinonez is a painter and sculptor whose large-scale mixed media works explore humanity, memory, and the visual language of portraiture. Born and raised in Central Falls and the Providence area, he studied visual arts through the Arts Magnet program at Hope High School and later earned his degree from Brown University in 2001.
Angel’s creative journey began in early childhood — drawing, painting, and experimenting with any materials he could get his hands on. “From the moment my little fingers picked up a bulky crayon, my love for all things art began,” he says. That lifelong need to create continues to drive his work today.
His paintings are deeply influenced by his environment, drawing inspiration from books, films, music, and everyday life. He’s known for his bold, graphic style and his ability to capture emotion, presence, and history on canvas. Angel is also a passionate explorer of new materials, carving wood and stone in recent years, and always pushing his work into new territory.
His art has been exhibited in galleries and public spaces across the U.S. and South America, and can be found in numerous private collections. He has worked extensively with community and arts organizations including Big Nazo, Progreso Latino, The Providence Black Repertory, and AS220.
Now based in Richmond, Virginia, Angel is focused on building a new body of work from his studio — a space filled with paintings in various stages, ideas in motion, and the quiet discipline of a lifelong artist still chasing the perfect painting.
